Message From Your President

My name is Rick Crosier and I am President of the Virginia Crime Prevention     Association. Each month I will be placing an article on the website talking about a   variety of topics that I feel will be of interest to you. We hope that you enjoy the new and updated website and would like to thank Nicole Phipps of Roanoke, Virginia,    for all of her help and efforts with this endeavor.

This is an exciting year for the Virginia Crime Prevention Association and I am glad       to be a part of it. We are still working on the details, but the State Conference will       be held here, in Roanoke, Virginia, on September 28 through October 1, 2014.         We continue to work with DCJS on this project and as final details are made we will      place them on the website for you.

Tuesday, August 5, 2014, is "National Night Out" and is a program sponsored by       the National Association of Town Watch each year. "National Night Out" programs involve citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 16000 communities from all 50 States, U.S.Territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In 2013, over 37       million people participated in "National Night Out".

"National Night Out" is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation       in, local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Numerous activities have been performed over the years ranging from traditional    display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils to block parties and cookouts. Police   and Fire Departments play an active role in many of these various programs.      "National Night Out" has proven to be an effective, inexpensive, and enjoyable   program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in      crime prevention.

As one of the leading organizations in Crime Prevention across the State, the Virginia Crime Prevention Association asks that each group throughout Virginia think about doing some form of activity to celebrate this year's "National Night Out". It can be as simple as leaving your front porch lights on all night to ice cream socials and block parties and picnics. I ask that if you are planning to do an event to please let us      know what it is so that we can list it on the website to show people across the        State and Nation how active we as a State can be. I look forward to working with     each of you in the upcoming year.

Please keep Lin Manning's Family in your prayers.

After squeezing every ounce of joy, love and brotherhood out of life, Detective and Patriot
Lin Manning passed away July 20, 2014 after valiantly battling cancer. He was 42 years old.
His passion was always to be the voice for those who had no voice. He joined the Roanoke City Police Department in 1997 and served numerous roles protecting citizens and working together with the community. His lovely wife Dreama, his step children, his sister and brother, and his family in blue were the things that were most important to him. We'll miss him here on Earth
but know he'll always be on watch somewhere above us.

Welcome!
