Crrime Prevention Mentor Program

On the job training is one of the more effective ways to learn how to perform a new task or to develop new skills for completing an old task. To provide another format for learning crime prevention skills, the VCPA established the Crime Prevention Mentor Program. This program allows crime prevention practitioners to spend time with and learn from experienced crime prevention practitioners.

The VCPA will provide the lodging and meal costs for a crime prevention practitioner from one Virginia locality to visit another locality in Virginia. Mentor visits can last up to three days. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed by the VCPA after receiving an invoice from the exchange participant. Sites to be visited must be approved by the VCPA. The exchange participant is responsible for locating and making site visit arrangements with a host location. After completion of the exchange, the exchange participant must complete a brief report about the exchange visit and forward it to the VCPA. Mentor participants are assumed to be working for their employing organization while making the exchange visit. The VCPA assumes no liability for the exchange participant at any time during the exchange visit.

Reimbursement Guidelines:

The VCPA will reimburse for mileage, meals and lodging.  The allowable costs are:

  • Mileage:  $0.40 cents per mile - Includes mileage to and from the host site and mileage incurred while at the host site.Lodging: $65.00 per day (request government rate - receipts required)
  • Meals:  $35.00 per day
