| 30th Anniversary Crime Prevention Conference |
An estimated 800 individuals from 97 organizations attended the 30th Annual VCPA Crime Prevention Conference in Fairfax County, March 15 - 19, 2008 at the Fairfax Marriott at Fair Oaks. The conference included the Virginia Neighborhood Watch Conference on March 15 attended by 154 individuals; the Safety and Security Fair on March 16 attended by an estimated 250 individuals; the 30th Annual VCPA Crime Prevention Conference March 16 - 19 attended by 200 individuals and the State Police HEAT LEO Awards luncheon on March 19, attended by 200 individuals.
The conference was made possible in part by 13 organizations that donated $27,000 to support the conference. About the VCPA |
The Virginia Crime Prevention Association, Inc. (VCPA) is a 501C-3 non-profit organization
that was established in 1978. The mission of the VCPA is to develop and implement programs
that prevent crime by focusing on reducing opportunities for crime. The VCPA partners with
law enforcement, community groups, schools businesses, public housing, the Virginia
Department of Criminal Justice Services, the Virginia Community Policing Institute, the
Virginia State Police, the National Crime Prevention Council and other organizations to
deliver programs and services. Services include training, technical assistance, program
development, advocacy and resource material.
Over the past two years, the VCPA provided assistance to 500 communities, delivered 71 training programs and major presentations and provided 1,140 hours of training for 3,340 individuals. The VCPA estimates that these free services save local and state law enforcement agencies over $300,000 in annual crime prevention training costs.
The VCPA has extensive experience in developing and providing training and technical assistance in the following areas: Neighborhood Watch; Resident Patrols, threat and security assessments; personal safety; child safety; school safety; workplace safety; business security; police services in public and assisted housing; security lighting; security hardware; Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED); crime analysis and crime prevention planning. The VCPA is served by a volunteer board of directors and is managed by an executive director. |
